July 01, 2008 -- Your Fight the Right-Wing Wacko Links of the Day.

** Rain Forest Action Network **
Peabody Coal -- the largest coal company in the world -- is exploiting government loopholes to re-open the permitting process for expanded coal mining on Dineh (Navajo) and Hopi reservations in the Black Mesa of northeastern Arizona. Peabody is funded by Citi and Bank of America, and we only have until July 7 to stop the company's new mining plan.

Our friends and partners from the Black Mesa Water Coalition have requested that we join them in this pivotal moment to stop Peabody from continuing its 30-year tradition of environmental racism in the Black Mesa. In addition to mining the region for coal, Peabody has drained more than 4,600 acre-feet of Navajo and Hopi drinking water every year from 1971-2006 in order to transport coal as slurry to a coal-fired power plant in Nevada. If Peabody gets the permit to expand its mining operations, the company will start draining water yet again!

Send a letter to the Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement now opposing the plan!

Have You Driven a Ford Lately?

Sign our petition to Ford CEO Alan Mulally, Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters and your Senators to demand more fuel-efficient vehicles. We will deliver the petition when we have 2,500 signatures, so please insure that we will have enough signatures by forwarding this petition to your friends and family.

Public Citizen is not asking Ford to bring back the Model T; it was an unacceptably unsafe vehicle. However, many technologies exist that can make vehicles both safer and more fuel-efficient. As Americans struggle to buy the necessities of life because of the astronomical cost of gas, we must demand vehicles that are more fuel-efficient and use alternative fuel sources.

** Change to Win **

America's workers are putting in more hours than ever and still struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, corporate CEOs enjoy salaries 180 times higher than their average employees.

So how do we level the playing field and get our economy back on track? Good union jobs are the place to start. The Employee Free Choice Act can help restore the American Dream by making it easier for workers to form unions. Support this bill and help us reach one million signatures!
